Defending champions Floodlights were defeated by Regal Seniors in the Over-40 male category, Memorex of Berbice beat Cotton Field of Essequibo and 4R Lioness shocked Shemaine Campbelle’s Rose Hall Females to become the Stag Beer & El Dorado Rum Softball champions last Sunday at the GCC Ground, Bourda.
Regal defeated Floodlight by 85 runs. Regal batted first scored 241 for 5 off their 25 overs. Player-of-the-match Linden Lyght top scored with 87, Thakoordial Rampersaud 60 and Rudy Rodrigues 54 not out offered support. Bowling for Floodlights, Imtiaz Mohammed took 3 for 47.
Floodlights in reply scored 156 for 7 off their 25 overs, Lalta Gainda top scored with 66 and Richard Persaud 40. Bowling for Regal, Amarnauth Boodhoo took 3 for 38.
In the Male Open final, Memorex of Berbice defeated Cotton Field of Essequibo by 7 wickets. Cotton Field batted first, scored 75 all out, Vishal Phillips took 4 for 14, Shawn Khan 3-14 and Vidian DaSilva 3-16. Memorex in reply scored 76 for 3 off 8.4 overs, Andy Bharapram 33 and Verasammy 29 not out. Andy Bharapram was named man-of-the-match.
In the Female final, 4R Lioness defeated Rose Hall Females by 6 runs. 4R Lioness batted first scored 75 for 5 off their 10 overs, Shyan Goodluck top scored with 28. Shemaine Campbelle took 2 for 28. Rose Hall Females in reply made 69 for 8 off their 10 overs. Tracey Glasgow took 2 for 15. Shyan Goodluck took 1 wicket for 8 runs and for her all round performance she was adjudged player-of-the-match.
Earlier in the semifinal matches, 4R Lioness defeated Lusignan Street Warriors by 2 runs. 4R Lioness batted first made 69 for 7 off 10 overs, Lusignan in reply 67 for 5 off their 10 overs. Rose Hall Females defeated Wellwoman by 9 wickets. Wellwoman batted first made 115 for 6 off 10 overs, Rose Hall Females in reply made 116 for 1 in the 10th over. Cotton Field Defeated Trophy Stall by 3 wickets. Trophy Stall batted first made 89 off 15 overs. Cotton Field in reply made 90 for 7 in the 15th over.
Players of the tournament: Male Over-40 Category – Danny Mohanram, Male Open Category – Patrick Khan and Female Category – Shaneeza Williams.
This nationwide softball tournament was run by the Guyana Floodlight Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA). The season resumes in August with the Mike’s Pharmacy Inter County Softball Male and Female Tournament.
