Latchman Raghubeer, who was in the habit of harassing his parents for money to do what ever he wanted, ended up chopping his mother in her head.
For that act he was jailed for six months on Wednesday by Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo when he appeared before her at the New Amsterdam Magistrate’s Court charged with unlawful wounding.
Prosecutor Corporal Orin Joseph told the court that on Wednesday June 15, about 17:00 hrs the man who lives with his mother, Phulmatie Raghubeer, and other relatives at 68 Levi Dam, Angoy’s Avenue, was on one of his regular behaviour patterns.
He went home intoxicated and demanded money from his mother to buy more alcohol. The woman refused and the man took a cutlass and chopped her on her forehead.
The woman was rushed to the New Amsterdam hospital where she was treated and sent away.
On Wednesday he pleaded guilty and was jailed.
