Nigel Adams, who is facing three counts of obtaining money by false pretence and two counts of making use of threatening language, appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court.
In relation to charges of him obtaining money by false pretence it is alleged that on December 9, 2009 he obtained $2.7 million; that between December 9, 2009 and March 18, 2010 he obtained $3.9 million; and between December 9, 2009 and January 14, 2011 he again obtained $6.3 million.
All the monies were obtained through the Bank of Guyana from the Accountant General department of the Ministry of Finance.
The felony committed was conspired with persons unknown, the court heard.
The defendant was not required to plead to the three indictable charges.
The allegations brought against Adams in relation to him making use of threatening language, state that on April 16 and April 17, last, at Sophia he threatened Shamshon Mohamed.
Adams pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Adams who resides at Lot 21 Ogle was subsequently granted $400,000 bail for each indictable charge and $50,000 bail for each charge of threatening language.
He is expected to make his next court appearance on July 12.
