The Edward Beharry Group of Companies has renewed their commitment to the development of youth in Guyana through sports with their sponsorship of the National School Basketball Festival (NSBF) that Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) is coordinating.
Beharry is a previous sponsor of the tournament. They brought their 2011 sponsorship under the Champion brand. The company will be donating several incentives/awards to the tournament this year to enhance the quality of play in the school’s tournament.
They will be contributing the Sportsmanship Award for the teams and players, who display those qualities, the Senior Classman Award, the Best Coach Award, and the Student-Athlete Award for the players who achieved excellence on the court and in class.
Beharry’s Merchandising and Promotions Officer, Hashin Alli said that the company was proud to be associated with the tournament and their contribution was part of fulfilling their civil role in society and helping to facilitate a successful Championship.
“We always saw this as a very good opportunity…in order to support youths and encourage them to fulfill their dreams through sport, which is just one of the many attributes we continue to make available to the Guyanese populace,” Alli told the media yesterday.
The 2011 edition of the NSBF is set to become the biggest editions of the tournament so far in its six-year existence. The tournament was extended across the nation with conferences being set up before the best teams congregate in the City for the National Playoffs.
“Beharry’s sponsorship is going to help, significantly, the out of town teams. As you may know, this year our undertaking has been the inclusion of so many teams,” Chris Bowman, President of the YBG, added. More than ten teams are expected from outside Georgetown.
