Fairy Landing, owned by Mohamed Sheriff, returned to the Race track with a bang when it won the feature B class event last Sunday when the Norman Singh Memorial Turf Club situated at Bel Air No 6 West Coast Berbice in collaboration with the Jumbo Jet stables staged its grand one day ‘Guyana Cup Fever’ horserace meet.
Fairy Landing, ridden by Yap ‘Old Boy’ Drepaul, was unstoppable with a convincing gate to pole victory as it raced away from an impressive field and took the whopping $600,000 and trophy up for grabs compliments of Beverage giants Banks DIH Limited, over 1200m. In second position was Bob’s Fortune, with Zelick third, while the much vaunted Home Bush Baby had to settle for fourth.
Better Than Gold of the Jagdeo stable and ridden by Rupert Ramnauth continued it’s unbeaten run with a blistering finish down the homestretch to take the co-feature, Norman Singh Memorial Classic Three year old West Indian Bred race over 1200m. In the process it also claimed the $500,000 purse and the Norman Singh Memorial Trophy.
In the early running, it was Irish Girl and Big Impact in the lead. However, as the animals hit the far turn for home, Better Than Gold started to make its move, racing away from the rest of the field. Irish Girl held on for second ahead of Spanish Love and Big Impact.
Got To Go of The Jumbo Jet stable with Jockey Prem Chandra on mount went all the way as it took pole position, the $400,000 and trophy compliment of the Jumbo Jet Auto Sales in the E class event. The race was close throughout with King Maker riding in second ahead of Top of the Line and The Bailiff.
There was a major upset in the race for Three Year old Guyana Bred Horses as Wicked Intention with Prem Chandra on perch produced a wicked run down the homestretch to upstage pre-race favourite Super Cat to take top honours and the $300,000 winner’s money and trophy compliments of Mohammed Sheriff and Jumbo Jet Auto Sales. Super Cat came in second ahead Princess Renukha and Royal salute.
The G class race was another competitive event with the lead changing hands on numerous occasions. In the end it was South Sea of the Chattergoon stable with Navin Alli in the stables that took home the $300,000 winners money and trophy compliments of Imperial Manufacturers. It was a stormy event as Stormy Lass, Stormy Deal and Miracle Run could do no better as they round out the money.
The two year old Guyana and West Indian Bred Horses took to the track for the first time in a 400M race. The event was won by Baby Flyer which was ridden by May Anderson ahead of Come dance with me, Pride and Joy and Times have changed. The win was worth $300,000 with the stakes and trophy donated by Jumbo Jet Auto Sales.
The I1 and lower event was won by Quincy of the Sherwin Neblett stables and ridden by Harrinarine as the animal chalked up its third win in succession to take home the $150,000 winners money. Rounding out the money were Royal Time, New World and De Gump.
Infinity was invincible as it took first place and the $140,000 prize and trophy in the race for I3 horses. Ravi B and JD Junior scored a dead heat for second place with Kevin fourth.
Black Water of the Dinanauth stable with Chandra on mount scored its first win in the Division 1, 2 and 3 race as it romped home with the $120,000 and trophy on offer. Red Power, Silver and Fire Master were left in the winner’s wake.
Jockey Prem Chandra was adjudged champion jockey with the Jumbo Jet stable copping the Champion Stable award. They were presented with trophies compliments of The Trophy Stall Bourda Market. Over 78 horses took part in the day’s activity.
