A teenage boy was yesterday fished out of the Moruka River after he reportedly fell out of a boat on Monday evening. The lad has been identified as 16-year-old Michael Desouza of Moruka Village.
Reports out of the area are that Desouza was on a fishing expedition when he suffered a seizure and fell into the river. The incident occurred sometime around 19:00 hours, and at the time, two other persons were in the boat.
De Souza is said to be an epileptic. Immediately after he fell into the river his colleagues began a frantic search but came up empty handed.
The men also raised an alarm and were joined by other residents of the area. However the search had to be abandoned as the visibility was poor in the location.
This publication was told that the residents and the lad’s relatives were joined by police ranks early yesterday morning and another search was launched. Sometime around noon yesterday the lad’s body was recovered. His remains have since been handed over to relatives for burial as police were satisfied that no foul play was involved.
