Dear Editor,
Humour, it is said, is good for our health.
It is not without some humour that I read on a BBC website of the former leader of Tunisia, Mr. Ben Ali, saying that he had no intention of relinquishing power but was actually ‘duped’ into so doing.
According to the former President he went to Saudi Arabia not to seek political asylum but to ensure the safety of his family following mass uprising against his rule early this year.
He said he had intended to return to Tunisia immediately ‘but the plane left without him, disobeying his orders.’ Poor Mr. Ali!
This however did not prevent a Tunisian court from sentencing both he and his wife in their absence to 35 years in prison each for theft and other charges.
