Communication giant DIGICEL yesterday assisted 300 families in the flood affected villages of Lethem.
Two soldiers were a part of the distribution. They assisted the two Digicel representatives.
Some of the items that were distributed included buckets, soap powder, bleach, detergents, Jeyes fluid, batteries with torchlights, toothpaste, bath soap, mosquito nets and other basic necessities were given to residents.
There has been a cessation of rains in Lethem. Flood waters have dropped significantly over the last 48 hours.
Some of the communities visited by the Digicel team were Culbert City, St Ignatius, Stock Farm, Tabatinga, Central Lethem and the outskirts.
According to Distribution Executive of DIGICEL, Nichola Parasram, the company invested almost $4M to assist families that were severely affected by the recent floods in the area.
Manager of Lammie Gas Station, Dwight Coates who is also a DIGICEL dealer told this publication that Minister of Transport Robeson Benn, Prime Minister Sam Hinds, and Regional Executive Officer Ronald Harsawack must be thanked.
In the flood period, heavy duty containers brought water and pumped it into tanks at the gas station so residents could have had potable drinking water and bath water also.
Hundreds of cattle that were moved to higher grounds have returned to their previous habitat.
