Scores turn out at ‘walk against crime and violence’

Over 100 persons from the Joint Services turned out yesterday to participate in a fitness walk in support of stamping out crime and violence.
Law enforcement officers from the Guyana Police Force, Guyana Prisons Service and the Guyana Defence Force were also present as the Ministry of Home Affairs spearheaded the event.
After the participants arrived at the bandstand on the seawalls, Minister of Home Affairs, Clement Rohee stated that the great turnout of people at the activity yesterday was evidence that a large number of people are interested and committed to fighting crime.
Rohee explained that every year the budget for the security sector is larger than the previous year since more work is required on a constant basis.
The workers were also urged to “continue the fight” in serving and protecting the members of society while maintaining respectable roles in eyes of the citizens.
The walk began at the Ministry of Home Affairs and proceeded along Camp Street where the participants continued along the said route to arrive at the Band stand yesterday morning.
