– disc jockey, residents detained
A policeman was injured when a group of revelers from the village of Mon Repos on the East Coast of Demerara attacked ranks who were responding to reports of noise nuisance on Saturday night.
The policeman was wounded when one of the revelers struck him with a bottle during attempts to arrest the disc jockey at a function in the village.
This newspaper understands that the police were summoned to the scene after receiving reports that the music from the function was disturbing other residents.
They advised the DJ to lower the volume and he refused.
They were then instructed to arrest the DJ and seize the amplifier, which they were attempting to do when they were attacked.
According to reports, about 30 persons including women swarmed the ranks who managed to ward them off without much use of force.
The DJ along with several other persons including three women were arrested and placed into custody overnight.
They are expected to appear before an East Coast Demerara Magistrate today.
Almost two months ago police on the West Coast of Demerara were forced to open fire on revelers at Windsor Forest, after they refused an order to stop playing their loud music at a particular time.
Some of the revelers there were also arraigned before the court.
