The partly decomposed body that was found at a Kingston wharf, on Saturday has been identified as former economist and photographer Mohamed Fazal Shaw, 51, of Nandy Park, East Bank Demerara.
Relatives made the identification yesterday at the Lyken Funeral Home. One relative told Kaieteur News that Shaw was last seen on June 16, at Main Street. He was wearing a black shirt with stripes and black pants.
According to the relative Shaw separated from his wife since February and was living with his sister at Nandy Park.
Relatives said that the death has left them in a state of shock and disbelief. “He never showed any sign of depression….so we find this very strange” one relative said.
Some relatives are of the belief that Shaw might have been a victim of foul play, but they are awaiting results of the post mortem examination, which is expected to be done today.
A security guard attached to the Demerara Woods Company told Kaieteur News, on Saturday that someone made the discovery shortly after lunch. According to the guard the victim appeared to have been badly beaten.
He also stated that the man was clad in three-quarter pants, shirt and shoes. Police ranks were subsequently summoned to the area.
