Kuru Kururu Warriors emerged victorious on penalty kicks when they defeated Kuru Kuru Lions when action in the James Herbert knockout football tournament concluded at the Kuru Kuru College Ground Sunday afternoon last.
A small sized crowd witnessed football of a high quality where both teams demonstrated superb skill.
For their efforts, the winning team received $75,000 sponsored by Franklyn Stephens Mining Co and the James Herbert trophy. The sponsor’s daughter, Janelle, presented the winning package to captain of the Warriors team Cordel Johnson.
Mr. Herbert also donated the runners up prize of $50,000 and another daughter, Tiffany made the presentation the prize to the runners up.
The third prize was sponsored by Clive Matthews Business Establishment and won by Timehri Panthers, while the 4th prize sponsored by Major’s Sports Store went to Grove Hi Tech FC.
The prize for the Most Valuable Player and Best Goalkeeper went to Warriors Nejoin Hooke.
The organizers wish to extend heartfelt thanks to those corporate entities and individuals that sponsored the tournament and committed to an annual staging of the event.
