Police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of 62 year old Mohan Singh of 43 West Ruimveldt.
Mohan Singh a dragline operator left his home on Tuesday to work at Northern Hogg Island. He worked on Wednesday and in the afternoon took a bath and a cup of tea before retiring to bed. He told his foreman (named Peter) that he did not wish to eat anything. He did not complain of feeling unwell. Later that evening Peter and two of his grandsons who also shared the same building but in a different room retired.
On Thursday morning Peter sent one of his grandsons to wake Mohan whom he called “Old Boy”. The young lad returned with the news that Mohan was not responding and his body was cold.
Peter then called his neighbours and later informed the police.
This newspaper learnt that Mohan was a heavy smoker and drank copiously and recently fell into a coma.
When his wife was informed by telephone of his death she said that he was in a coma. The man’s son who resides in Tushen was informed by his mother and he travelled to Hogg Island where he confirmed that his father was indeed dead. A post mortem will be conducted on the body shortly.
