Leading Guyana and top Berbice junior cyclist Neil Reece was recently the recipient of a brand new specialized racing cycle compliments of long time supporter, A. Ally & Sons General Store of Berbice.
Reece, a member of the Flying Ace Cycling Club based in New Amsterdam has been in top form recently. He received the new machine on Wednesday from Fizal Ally, Chief Executive Officer of the Store which has 4 locations in the Ancient County.
The simple presentation ceremony took place at the Store’s Home Depot at Strand New Amsterdam.
The Giant Brand Carbon Fiber cycle is valued at US$5,000 and was slected by Recce’ long time Coach Randolph Roberts.
The 17 year-old Reece who has been competing since the age of 10 has been sponsored by the A. Ally & Sons for the past five years and this is the third cycle that the company has sponsored for him. The club has also received a cycle too.
CEO Faizal Ally in handing over the cycle to the New Amsterdam Technical Institute (NATI) student expressed his company’s delight in maintaining their partnership with the junior cyclist. Ally stated that it is all part of the Company’s policy of giving back to the community.
He noted that it is a pleasure for them to be associated with Reece who has been keeping the name of the company flying high.
Ally pointed out that his company loves to be associated with progress, prosperity, winners and good things, especially when youths are involved reminiscing that ever since they were approached to assist Reece, they knew they were entering into a good partnership.
Reece was told that as long as he continues to perform and be a positive role model, better things will be in store for him while he was also wished the best for the future by Ally on behalf of his family and the company.
Coach Roberts in remarks noted that he knew he had a champion rider since the Reece started his cycling career. “Reece always gives of his best and is a very dedicated cyclist and individual to work with. He has excellent work ethics.”
Roberts revealed that currently they are preparing to participate in the National Cycle Road Race Championships on June 26. The new cycle he said is a super bike and will be a tremendous asset in Reece’s upward climb and quest to be the top cyclist in Guyana.
Reece has also competed in Trinidad & Tobago and other Caribbean Islands with success over the years.
The soft spoken rider expressed gratitude to the Management & Staff of A. Ally and Sons for the donation on behalf of the Club and himself and promised to continue to do his best to make everyone proud. (Samuel Whyte)
