A fall out over a minor drug deal led police in Berbice to recover a 12-gauge shotgun and several cartridges on the Corentyne on Tuesday night.
The police also arrested two brothers, one of whom has admitted that he brought the weapon and ammunition from neighbouring Suriname.
Kaieteur News understands that one of the brothers had threatened to use the weapon on a Corentyne resident who reportedly robbed him in a drug deal.
According to reports, the police acting on information they received, went to an Albert Street, Corriverton address around 20:40 hours on Tuesday, where they met Colin Parks who hails from the mining town of Linden. Parks handed over a shotgun, which he claimed he had taken from a man who was threatening his household.
He related to the police that one Bridgenand Geonarine, called Cutline, a fisherman of Lot 35 Section C No. 79 Village, Corriverton, told him that he was robbed of $500 worth of cocaine that he had purchased from the said Corriverton address.
Geonarine left and returned about five minutes later armed with a shotgun and Parks on seeing him hid behind a stand.
He then came up from behind Geonarine, threw him to the ground and took away the shotgun after which Geonarine ran away.
Parks later handed the weapon and a 16-gauge cartridge to the police, who subsequently went to Geonarine’s home and conducted a search in his presence.
They found two 12-gauge Winchester and two 12-gauge Fiocchi live cartridges on a vanity in the bedroom. A further three 16-gauge cartridges were found in a blue jeans pocket.
Geonarine was subsequently arrested after admitting that the items were his.
