Dear Editor,
For the past several days I have watched with interest and admiration the government’s response to the devastation caused by flooding in Region Nine. The quick reaction of the government, in sharp contrast to the situation in Region Nine has shown what government can do when it has interest of the people at heart and the foresight to act promptly; I applaud them for doing such a wonderful job.
I have seen the effort being made by Presidential Candidate, Donald Ramotar, various Government Ministers, and others to come to the aid of the flood victims; this is a great testament to the spirit of the people to come together when needed.
This reminds me that despite the rhetoric contained in much of the news and other print media, and the pronouncements of various politicians, we really are not that much different from one another. In this crisis we need to work hard and do our best to establish and maintain our vision of the “good life
My heart goes out to the victims and their families, especially to those of the many schoolchildren who fell victim to this high rising flood water.
We can only hope their loss will be an incentive to make changes in building standards to help combat future catastrophe of this sort.
Kudos to all those who tried to assist these flood victims. As an individual, I cannot do much in support of the victims, but will do what I can. I will continue to support my Guyanese friends and government and do my best to facilitate good understanding between our people and our countries.
