A crew of six is thankful to be alive. Its members were attacked on the high seas off the North West District.
Owner of the vessel, Dhanaram Kadiwall, said that pirates attacked his boat the ‘Invincible One’ on Friday.
According to Kadiwall, the boat left the Ruimveldt foreshore on May 6 last and was scheduled to return two Mondays ago. The crew failed to show up.
On Friday Kadiwall said that he received a phone call from a friend who informed him that his boat was spotted way out in the high seas and appeared to be broken down. The man said that the friend then told him that it would cost him $300,000 if they took the vessel to shore.
Kadiwall said he made a report to the Marine Police who told him he needed to report the matter to the GDF coastguards which he did.
“Is people life involved so I tell the man bring in the boat and now I hear the boat come in and deh at Charity wharf.”
The man said that he managed to make contact with his crew members who informed him that they were attacked and robbed by gunmen.
“They tell me that men with big gun beat them up and take away they ration and stuff.”
The boat owner said that he is currently awaiting the arrival of his crew members who up to press time yesterday were still stranded in Charity.
“They can’t come away and lef the boat so I got to buy some parts for the boat and send it up and then they can come down to town.”
In addition the man has expressed his frustration given the fact that this is the third time his crew and boat have come under attack by pirates.
