Dear Mr. Editor,
Kindly permit me to respond to your Feature Columnist, writing under the fictitious name Bill Cotton/Reform, in Sunday 5th, June, Kaieteur News.
In the article “ PPP= POPE PEOPLE PARTY.” He made mention of my name and quoted me out of context. I have no problem with the article,
We all know that journalists get in the gutter, however if you will allow your journalist to publish people’s name you should not allow him to hide under a pen name.
I will ignore his ramblings in the article and will want to address the last Paragraph, where he referred to me by name in the BBC-Bankrupt Businessmen’s Club.
To set the record straight, Sam Barakat, nor the Company IDI Engineering was ever bankrupted. The company was liquidated and all financial obligations were satisfied.
This was necessary to deal with reckless and exploitative banks. Only last year a significant sum was paid to me as a final settlement by one of the banks.
On the matter of Bankrupt Businessmen’s Club, in my book they are entrepreneurs, and heroes, who only want to build Guyana to produce and provide jobs.
Many things went wrong outside their control including the major factors that the Guyana business environment contributed to. There were many in the club.
Let’s start with Guyana Airways Corporation, bankrupt twice, once under the chairmanship of our Speaker and Presidential aspirant, then for the second time under the chairmanship of our Private Sector Hero, and Honorary Doctor, along with about 14 of Guyana outstanding businessmen.
Recently, Guysuco under the directorship of our aspiring President, and the responsibility of the Minister of Agriculture, ever so confident.
GPL, under the Chairmanship of a powerful man and the responsibility of no other than national awardee, Prime Minister.
GNCB under the then Minister of Finance. CLICO under CEO made heroine at Guysuco and Berbice bridge Board. Guymine under the responsibility of the Prime Minister, etc. The Private Sector has its share. Wonder why Willems Timbers did not make Bill Cotton’s BBC club?
I guess they are not “ Indienne”. To quote his French!
No let’s get back to Bill Cotton’s article about the function at the Kings Plaza. The non-Indians, he referred to as his “ol pals” and the Indians to quote him,” Le tout Guyana Indienne haut bourgeois” French! To sink in the snobbery, insult and bigotry that one can expect from Bill Cotton, who claims to be a Whiteman, born in Guyana and lives in England. Bill Cotton sat at my table and was a total nuisance to the conversation, he kept asking questions non-stop about people, events, not to realize that he was working on earning his meal ticket from Kaieteur News for the article. It was unscrupulous to abuse and betray the privacy among friends and peddle it to your news paper. Bill omitted part of our conversation. I asked him why he left Stabroek News and is now at Kaeiteur News. His response “more money, I want to take some of Glen Lall money”. I suggested to him, maybe the Mafia at Stabroek News kicked him out. He said again it was money. What journalistic prostitute! Bill Cotton ended his article by showing off his sophistication and superiority complex with his French quote “Club. Plus ca change.plus ca meme chose” which is incorrect from the little French I know, should be “Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose “ meaning “The more things change, the more they stay the same”
I think I know what he means in his snotty French quote – “the more things has changed in Guyana by Indians, Bill Cotton still live in Massah days! That for him, stays the same!”
Now be warned, you don’t know who is Bill Cotton? Look out for a plump well rounded Portuguese looking man trying to Pope in our Guyanese way of life and culture, eat your food and write snotty and sarcastic things about us for a raise. He is not a “ Naim a karam”, forgive him, he does that for a living, his name is John Mair!
Pip! Pip!
