The Hearts of Oaks Masters Football club in collaboration with Sherlon Hetemyer and family has organized the Sherlon Hetemyer and Shaun Nurse Inter Secondary Independence Anniversary Football tournament for schools in the New Amsterdam area.
The tournament will begin on Monday June 13 and runs for one week with the finals being slated for Friday June 17. All the matches will be played at the All Saints Scott Church ground and will see six schools participating with the teams being divided into two groups. The schools are in group A -Vryman’s Erven Secondary School (VESS), Tutorial Academy Secondary (TASS) and School of The Nations (SOTN) While Group B is made up of Berbice High School (BHS), Berbice Educational Institute (BEI), Canje and New Amsterdam Multilateral Secondary (NAMS).
The fixtures are as follows: on Monday VESS will play TASS and BHS will come up against NAMS. Tuesday’s games will see VESS taking on SOTN and BHS taking on BEI. Wednesday TASS play SOTN and NAMS oppose BEI.
The winner and runner-up of the two groups will advance to the semifinals on Thursday, with the winner of one group laying the runner-up of the other group. The two winners will then meet in the grand final on Friday with the losers playing in the third place play off.
The winning and runner up teams will be presented with trophies and other prizes, while outstanding individual players will also be presented with tokens of appreciation. Each participating school will also receive a football. Each match will be for 60 minutes duration. The coordinator is Neil ‘Grizzly’ Humphrey.
