Brothers Nigel and Encosy Horatio, and Ronson Durant appeared yesterday before Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court charged with possession of ammunition without lawful authority.
Encosy Horatio and Ronson Durant are members of the Guyana Defence Force Coast Guards. The two along with Nigel Horatio all pleaded not guilty to the possession charge.
The allegation brought against the trio states that on June 7, last, at Plaisance East Coast Demerara they had in their possession 133 rounds of 7.62 x 39 ammunition without lawful authority.
According to Police Prosecutor Vishnu Hunte, on June 7, police acted on information and followed the defendants to the Plaisance railway embankment. When the trio stopped, the ranks went over to the taxi cab where they were seated and conducted a search.
That search uncovered a black haversack containing the ammunition that they were allegedly about to sell.
Hunte told the court that the trio was subsequently cautioned, arrested and charged with the offence.
The prosecution objected to bail. Nigel and Encosy Horatio, and Durant were then remanded to prison and ordered to make their next court appearance on June 14.
