– Sattaur, Chanderpaul not selected
West Indies under-19 left-handed batsman Kwame Crosse will lead Demerara in the GTM three-day under-19 cricket competition which commences on Monday at the Providence Stadium with Essequibo facing Berbice.
Crosse, who also bowl right-arm medium pace will have wicketkeeper Dinish Mangal as his deputy while First-Class leg-spinner Amir Khan, who like Crosse represented the West Indies under-19 side against Young Australia in Dubai this year, is also in the squad.
The team was picked by the National youth selectors after the Demerara Inter-Association 50-over competition, which ended yesterday and left-handed Opener Brian Sattaur, who represented Guyana in both the Regional under-15 and under-19 levels last year, has not been included in the Demerara side this year.
The inform Brandon Chanderpaul, who like Sattaur is a member of the Guyana under-15 team to play in next month’s Regional under-15 series in Trinidad, has also been overlooked for his county’s under-19 side.
Chairman of the National junior selectors Michael Franco Hyles explained that both left-handed under-15 players would have made the Demerara under-19 side based on their ability but explained that they could not be selected since the National under-15 squad will be camp at the LBI Chetram Singh Centre of Excellence during the same time that the GTM Inter-County tournament will be played.
The squad which also includes pacer Neil Barry Junior, the son of former National Wicketkeeper batsman Neil Barry, will be managed by Ray Barton and Coached by Orin Bailey.
Demerara play Essequibo at Providence from June 17-19 in their opening match before facing Berbice at the same venue from June 21-23. (S. Devers)
The Demerara squad read:- Kwame Crosse (Captain), Dinesh Mangal (Vice-captain), Chanderpaul Hemraj, Christopher Surat, Arvin Seepersaud, Jahran Byron, Steven Randass, Raj Nanan, Amir Khan, Kamesh Yadram, Chandrika Persaud, Kevin Ogle, Neil Barry(Jnr), Royston Simon
