The police up to press time yesterday were on the hunt for a 19-year-old mason who fatally stabbed his friend early yesterday morning.
Thirty-four year-old Richard Anthony Skeete called ‘Troy’ of 763 ‘B’ Field Sophia was pronounced dead on arrival at the Georgetown Public Hospital, minutes after he was stabbed by a man known to him. According to reports, the incident may have stemmed from an argument over cell-phone credit between the two men.
One of the victim’s sisters, Jacquline Skeete, told this publication that her brother had complained to persons that the suspect had taken away his cell phone and used all the credit.
“He tell we that Monday night they went on the corner and the man (name given) take he cell phone and run away and use out all the credit,”.
Ms. Skeete related that early yesterday morning her brother was leaving for work, around 07:30 hrs, when a friend called him in a yard.
“De boy call and all of dem stand up in de yard talking and same time he (suspect) pass and the same boy call he off and he go in the yard and hail up everybody.”
The woman related that shortly after what appeared to be an ordinary conversation, the man calmly walked up to her brother hugged him and stabbed him three times.
“The man just bore he in he neck, under he arm and to under he heart with a knife and he run out de yard.”
The wounded man was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Meanwhile, the dead man’s reputed wife, Rhena Ann Williams, said that she was asleep when he left their home. She said it was later in the morning that a resident of the area informed her that Skeete had been killed.
She recalled that Steeke and his attacker were friends but recently had a ‘vibe’ over a cellular phone.
“Me boy does carry he in de interior fuh catch lil wuk. He does got he like a son”.
Williams also related the incident where the assailant took away Skeete’s cell phone and the two were at odds over the incident.
“He come home Monday night and tell me that the boy tek away he phone and use out de credit and them had a lil vibe.”
However another resident said that on Wednesday evening she was told that the man and Skeete had a confrontation.
“I hear Troy lash he (suspect) with a cutlass and I hear somebody saying this aint gon done just suh.”
There are also reports from the area that the assailant had a relationship with Skeete’s daughter as well.
Skeete was the second of six children and a father of one.
