In its continuing efforts to seek out players who can represent Guyana at the various levels given the new focus of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) to expose younger players in the rebuilding process, the Guyana UK Sports Development Association (GUSDA) will be running off a four-nation League in the United Kingdom, next month.
Quite a few players including current Golden Jaguar Captain Christopher Bourne came to the fore when the Guyana team played their first game in London against Cray Wanderers.
The GUSDA is now aiming to continue this trend as they seek to feed players to the various teams including the National Under-15 which is expected to play in the Twin Island Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in August.
The teams expected to participate in next month’s League along with the ‘Golden Jaguars’ are Trinidad & Tobago, Grenada and Jamaica.
Peter Barry is the Technical Director of the GUSDA with Head Coach duties being performed by Nicholas Bolt who said that it is belief that the impending tournament will have a powerful impact in the UK and will ultimately benefit the national squads.
Bolt further commented: “With regards to the Caribbean tournament being held here in the UK in the next few weeks, I think the progress made in the early stages of the squad is very promising indeed. From coaching the UK Jaguars I can see a willingness and determination in the players to attain a very high level of fitness and match readiness, something that is very pleasing.
I think the GFF should be extremely pleased with their vision of spreading their Guyanese Football vision in the UK and the impact it will inevitably have on the National Squad in future competitions and no doubt create a legacy and conveyor belt of Guyanese talent boding well for the future and for many years to come.”
Barry has been doing his bit to discover talented players for Guyana; he {Barry} is also the Head Coach of the Solid Rock Academy that has been making a positive impact ever since opening its doors. He has promised to seek out Under-15 players for the upcoming Regional tournament in T&T.
The Guyana UK Sports Development Association supports Guyanese sportsmen and women.
