Boxing fans would have had a marvelous opportunity to assess the positive spin offs of the monthly ProAm boxing cards following last month’s championship matches that featured the products of the above mentioned event.
Following the conclusion of that card Guyana now has two new Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) Champions in Lennox Allen, who defeated, Kwesi Jones for the super/middleweight crown, while Elton Dharry stopped Dexter Marques to take the bantamweight COBOFE crown. Kurt Bess also relieved Mitchell Rogers of the local heavyweight title.
The organizers are now ready to resume the building process and this month end ProAm affair, scheduled for Friday June 24 will have several other interesting bouts as local pugilists attempt to define themselves in the international arena. Mark Austin has shown much promise in earlier bouts in the ProAm cards but had his progress checked when he opposed Miquel Antoine and suffered his first loss. He will be seeking redemption against another Barbados based Guyanese, Revlon Lake for the local lightweight crown which is presently vacant.
This twelve rounder will be preceded by three four rounders when Simeon attempts to preserve his unbeaten record against Eversley Brown in a catchweight affair while Joel McRae will tangle with ‘Dangerous’ Denny Dalton.
After making a successful professional debut against Cecil Smith, Ray Sandiford will attempt to carry on the tradition in a 4 rounds catchweight match against Orlando ‘Pocket Rocket’ Rogers.
The boxers have all been notified of their participation and have already opened camp at their respective gyms. Kaieteur Sport will follow their activities and report on them as they unfold.
