A Guyanese woman is currently in custody assisting with investigations following the discovery of cocaine on her person while attempting to board a flight at the Cheddi Jagan International Airport, Timehri.
Reports are that around 03:15 hours yesterday ranks from the Customs Anti Narcotics Unit intercepted the woman while she was about to board a flight heading to Jamaica. This publication was told that the woman was destined to leave on Flight BW-484.
According to reports the woman was going through the airport when her bags were searched and ranks became a little suspicious given the amount of footwear the woman was carrying.
A source close to the investigation said that the woman indicated to CANU ranks that she was going on vacation. A thorough search revealed that the woman had cocaine concealed in the different pairs of shoes she had.
The cocaine weighed a total of two kilograms. The woman was arrested and up to press time yesterday was still in custody.
Only two weeks ago a US national was nabbed at the airport with a quantity of cocaine. The man pleaded guilty and is currently serving his time in prison.
