The Guyana Amateur Boxing Association (GABA) has selected two boxers to attend the Youth Commonwealth Games fixed for the Isles of Mann from September 7 to 13.
The Selection Committee of GABA met last week and chose Flyweight Imran Khan and Bantamweight Keeve Allicock, both of the Harpy Eagle Gym, to attend the September event.
The pair is part of the 16 chosen by the association in their ‘Road to London 2012’ programme. GABA President Steve Ninvalle had indicated that they are looking to expose their boxers at every opportunity prior to the Olympic Games in London and this is one such time.
Several overseas outings are on the table including the Pan Am Qualifier in July. They opted out of the Junior World Championships in Kazakhstan due to the exorbitant costs attached to travel to that destination.
Khan and Allicock will hope to emulate and even do better than Clevon Rock, who had won a silver medal the last time Guyana was represented at these junior games in 2008.
