Overseas-based Guyanese and cricket enthusiast Dhanpaul ‘Danny’ Singh, who recently returned on holiday, presented the Everest Cricket Club with a large quantity of cricket gears during a simple ceremony which was conducted in the Boardroom of the club on Wednesday afternoon.
Singh, who resides in the USA shortly after presenting the equipment to the club in the presence of President Rajesh Singh, members of the junior squad and other executive members said that he was pleased to be associated with the club and happy to be able to contribute to the further development of the sport.
He said that apart from him, a number of close associates back in the USA were also instrumental in assisting him with the procurement of the equipment and took the opportunity to thank them for their support.
Singh disclosed that the gears are to be used by the junior members of the club since it is his wish that many more talented cricketers who might not have afforded the equipment will be given the opportunity to make full use of them.
He pointed out that from what he has learnt from sources close to the club, several talented cricketers have been unearthed, especially at the under-15 level and that is why the focus is for them to benefit from the gift.
Singh added that they would like to be part of the future undertaking of nurturing the talent and development of the juniors hence the support for that level.
Presently two members of the club Shevindra Hemraj and Shorfar Rutherford have been named in the Demerara U-15 squad and they are expected to immediately profit from the donation.
President Singh in his remarks thanked the donor on behalf of the management and members of the club and promised to fully utilise the gift for the benefit of the club.
He referred to it as a timely gesture and which the club is grateful for, adding that it has come at a time when two of their players have been called to the Demerara squad.
Meanwhile, among the other donors were King’s Jewellery, Travel Span, Leonora Kiddy’s Cricket, Fazal from Alba Fuel, Leslie Lowe and Zubbie.
