The Guyana Tennis Association showed its appreciation towards the Pegasus Hotel and the late David Persaud for their sterling contributions to the sport over the years at a simple ceremony held on Wednesday last at the Pegasus Hotel.
Pegasus CEO Mr. Robert Badal was presented with a plaque in recognition of the steadfast support that the Pegasus Hotel has provided with the staging of its annual Tennis Open for over 20 years and more recently with the free use of the courts for training camps for players.
Mr. Christopher Persaud received another plaque which honoured the contributions by his late father David Persaud who was described as a stalwart in the Tennis community.
David Persaud was a familiar figure on the Pegasus Courts for over 20 years, engaging in epic tennis matches with his colleagues and friends.
‘Skipper’, as he was fondly called always had the interest of tennis at heart and his selfless contributions over the years aided the development of many young players, whether it was donating racquets or gears to promising players or helping with covering the expenses for overseas trips for tournaments.
Dr. Arthur Hazelwood who resides in the United States of America was also rewarded for his contributions to the sport over the years, specifically with covering the association’s subscription fees annually to the International Tennis Federation (ITF) and with providing gears to assist with the development of the sport.
