Executives of the Guyana Softball League (GSL) have intensified efforts to aid in the development of softball cricket in all ten regions and have recently visited Hogg Island to present a number of trophies to the development of softball cricket in that area.
Treasurer f the GSL, Ms Selena Azeez, who had accompanied several other officials of the GSL to the island to participate in activities arranged for a fun day, handed over the gift while reminding residents of that community that her organization aims to support the efforts of all of its affiliates to foster sustained development. Ms Azeez further urged the cricketers to aspire to be competitive. She also voiced the wish that the island would produce champions in the near future.
Ms Azeez also said that executives of the GSL were heartened by the enthusiasm displayed by players of Hogg Island and hoped that other affiliates can emulate the residents of Hogg Islands and create the environment where recreation could be provided on a more consistent basis.
A resident of Hogg Island (Sonia O’Selmo) received the gift on behalf of the organizers thanked the GSL officials while acknowledging that it would go a long way towards the participation of his colleagues in the area in softball competitions. O’Selmo also said that such activities would ensure that the people live a healthy lifestyle. The GSL has promised to continue its drive in rendering support to other far-flung areas in its efforts to broaden the scope of the sport all across Guyana.
