Buxton ‘Carl Hooper’ Cricket Club Academy starts June 25

This year’s Buxton ‘Carl Hooper’ Cricket Club Academy is scheduled to commence on June 25 and run up to July 9 and will include former West Indies off-spinner and Coach Roger Harper as a facilitator.
President of the East Coast Demerara Club, Esse Peters, informed that former Guyana fast bowler Robert ‘Pacer’ Adonis will coordinate the Academy and encouraged the business community to support the programme by providing sponsorship.
“This Academy is a costly exercise but we continue to do it every year because of what it does for the youngsters in Buxton and the East Coast on a whole and we hope that business persons can come forward and assist us,” Peters said.
Among the items needed to make the Academy a success are two boxes of cricket balls which cost $13,000 and those desirous of making a contribution can contact Peters on telephone numbers 665-3185 or 220-9897.
Apart from Harper, a former Guyana First-Class Captain who is now President of the Georgetown Cricket Association (GCA), cricket Coach Daniel Richmond and female cricket personality Emily Dodson are also slated to give lectures at the Academy, while East Coast Cricket Board President and Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Vice-President Bissoon Singh is expected to talk to the youngsters during the two-week Academy.
