Dear WICB,
We, the fans of West Indies cricket, are extremely dissatisfied at the way the West Indies Cricket Board has been managing our cricket, in particular over the last few months. We are writing to you to express that displeasure and disapproval.
In particular, the way in which the Chris Gayle and Shivnarine Chanderpaul situations have been handled recently, leaves a lot to be desired. In all of international sports, high level athletes are by definition exceptional. As such it requires unique skills to effectively communicate with them. Clearly you have fallen short of those.
Even more concerning is the recent selection policies, where it seems as if this is being used as leverage to have our cricketers “toe the line”. This is indicative of vindictiveness. It is poor management indeed to have “a guillotine hanging over the heads” of the people we ask to represent us and give all their energies to West Indies cricket.
We, the paying fans of West Indies cricket (whether at the turnstile or by purchasing sports packages/channels to see WI cricket) expect the BEST players to be on the field, not the ones who merely obey your idiosyncratic rules.
Clearly, a reminder is appropriate at this juncture. The WICB is merely managing a product – not creating it. Without WI cricket – there is no need for a WICB. I am sure you too realize this.
