But male Media team continue winning ways
The annual Grace Kennedy Remittance Services (GKRS) stakeholders cricket and domino competition for members of the media and the host concluded at the Banks DIH Ground on Sunday with mixed results.
Captain Sean Devers led from the front with a useful all-round performance before consecutive boundaries from Jermaine Carter ensured the Guyana Media team beat Bill Express Titans by four wickets to successfully defend the title they won last year. The final over of the pulsating 15/15 Tape-ball contest began with the game on a knife’s edge with the Media boys needing seven to win from six balls.
The left-handed Carter finished the contest with four balls to spare with a lofted drive over long-off and a pugnacious pull for boundaries.
Devers took 3-16 from his three overs of off-spin on the tiny ground and got support from medium pacer Calvin Roberts who had 2-23.
Pacer Jermaine Neblett and left-arm swing bowler Kizan Brummell had a wicket each as the Titans reached 101-8 off their allotted 15 overs in sweltering heat. Media team Keeper Marlon Munroe had two stumpings off Devers.
Niko Cummings hit four sixes and a four in 38, while Yannick Tobin supported with an unbeaten 20 with two sixes for the Titans.
After Avenash Ramzan was run out just when he was beginning to settle in, opener John Ramsingh top-scored with 18 with a six and a four while Ravi Persaud (13), Devers (13), Rawle Tony (who hit two sixes in 13) and Carter (10*) chipped in as the Media X1 reached 103-6 off 14.2 overs.
Cummings (2-14), Vaughn Alleyne (2-24) and Paul Persaud and Yannick Hinds with a wicket each bowled well in a losing effort for GKRS.
The match was always a close affair and a few of the Umpiring decisions for both sides would have been questioned had the Referral system been operation with a ball which was signaled ‘five wides’ in the penultimate over of the match when it might have clipped the batsman’s thigh, causing plenty of debate among the small but raucous crowd.
Earlier, The Dynamite Divas Female Media side lost by eight wickets to the Bill Express Female Titans after being bowled out for 55 in 9.3 overs of the allotted 10.
Extras top scored with 16 for the media ladies while opener Princessa Wilkie made 11 to be the only player in double figures. Iva Wharton (9), Tiffany Grant (8) and Goyanne Rampersaud (7) were the other main contributors.
Female Titans then made light work of the Divas’ bowling to reach the victory target from 4.4 overs for the loss of just two wickets.
Player of the match Daniela Darling was savage on all the bowlers to finish on 29 with two sixes and three fours. She was supported by Shonnell Wills with 16 not out as Wharton and Rampersaud picked up one wicket each.
In domino, the female media workers trashed the host to win 94 – 81. In the male division after four sittings the hosts were leading 38-32 when a break was taken to facilitate another activity.
However, due to time constraints that turned out to be the final score giving the GKRS male Titans a prize they would have had to otherwise work hard for.
