In an effort to offer good clean fun in a family atmosphere setting, while providing exciting races, the Guyana Motor Racing & Sports Club (GMR&SC) launched its go-kart facility with an Endurance Meet on Sunday, at the entity’s Headquarters on Albert Street.
Speaking with an official of the fraternity, he said that the Meet was well attended and they were heartened by the response from the public, adding that it could evolve into being a regular feature on the club’s calendar of events.
“I think that from the support we received the executive could very well decide to make it a regular feature on our calendar of events,” the official mentioned.
In the day’s results: Endurance Race, the team of Stephen Vieira, Marcel Profitt and Elliot Vieira won from Jimmy Ten-Pow, Wayne Vieira and Andy Phang, while third place went to the combination of Keith, Clint and Raymond Seebarran. In the 9-lap event, first place went to Nickel Seereeram and he was followed home by Edward Power.
The 7-lap race was won by Alex Power and he came home ahead of Matthew Phang, while in the 5-lap event Elliot Vieira beat Matthew Phang.
It was reported that Matthew Phang unofficially holds the lap record of 41.51 seconds which was registered on Sunday.
It must be noted also that karting is usually the avenue that most of the top drivers in the world use to launch their careers and one of the most famous ones is former F1 World Champion Lewis Hamilton.
