Guyana and Barbados contested two friendly Internationals June 1986, both matches were played at the world famous GCC Bourda.
In game one, the host playing under the captaincy of Western Tigers Trevor ‘Lannie’ Maxwell succumbed 2 Nil.
The goal scorers for Barbados were Colin Forde in the seventh minute of play and Richard Niles minutes before half time. In the deciding game of the series Guyana backed by a partisan and capacity crowd came from a goal down to triumph two goals to one. Barbados took the lead in the late stages of the first half, through Michael King. Trevor Maxwell’s men responded with goals through Shawn ‘Putty’ Williams, now deceased, penalty and the artistic and elusive Adrian Forde.
Barbados were using the series to prepare for the then 1986 Central American and Caribbean games while coach Lennox Arthur was moulding an Olympic qualifiers squad.
