The annual flag raising ceremony in Essequibo to commemorate Guyana’s 45th independence anniversary, was held outside the Anna Regina fire station.
Among the attendees were Minister of Labour, Manzoor Nadir; Region Two vice chairman, Vishnu Samaroo; Divisional Commander, Brian Joseph; Member of Parliament Farouk Khan; and students of the Essequibo Technical Institute.
Nadir said that Guyana as a whole has overcome all challenges. As a people we should be proud, he added.
Nadir added that independence is an important juncture in every Guyanese life and Guyana has seen tremendous growth in its economic fortunes.
The Labour Minister reflected on the formative years, especially in 1966, and alluded that there have been significant progress in all sectors of Guyana.
He called on the young people to study the history of Guyana. “Essequibo has develop and are giving students the opportunity to study.”
Samaroo, who represented Ally Baksh, the Region Two chairman, said that Guyana has chartered its own flights.
Nadir inspected the guard of honour and took the salute at the march past. Songs and poems were listed among some of the other items. The flag was hoisted by a rank from ‘G’ Division.
