On Wednesday last, Justice Rishi Persaud ordered that an Interim Committee take over the total and full management and control of the Kitty Jamaat.
The Committee comprises Norman Mc Lean, Raymond Azeez and Omar Sharif.
In a court document seen by this publication, the court further ordered that the said Committee of Management, as constituted, has the sole authority to convene and conduct election of Office Bearers of the Kitty Jamaat as provided for in the rules of that enity. The Committee was also ordered that all persons holding themselves out as officer bearers of the institution shall immediately cease to do so and they are compelled to assist and not to hinder in anyway with the Interim Committee of Management.
According to the ruling, only the Committee must address all areas of grievance of the members of the Jamaat prior to the conducting of elections. It has also been directed that the Committee as constituted shall take all legitimate action as necessary to remove all persons and or institutions in occupation of the Jamaat property, except the Imam.
“And it is further ordered and directed that the said interim committee as constituted herein shall convene and conduct election on the basis of the list of members of the Jamaat produced by the Juman Yassim subject to such amendments as the committee may in its sole and exclusive direction determine is necessary for the conduct of law election.”
The High Court further indicated that defendants in the matter, Mohammed Zaiff Hussain, Sheik Rahim Samad, Zafar Ali and Ahad Odo Best, have been ordered to deliver within one month of their handing over, all monies, keys, books and other records of the institution.
