While the children of Satchitnand Latchman and his wife Susilla were still clinging to hope that they would still have one parent alive those hopes were shattered early yesterday morning. The family was greeted with the news of Mr. Latchman’s death sometime after 01:00 hours.
The man died while receiving treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
On Wednesday, Mr. Latchman hacked his wife to death, ingested a poisonous substance and then set fire to the family’s two-storey house.
Initial reports are that the couple had been experiencing domestic problems for more than a year and had tried counselling to resolve it. However the couple’s children related that Mr. Latchman still had suspicions that his wife was having an affair.
Early Tuesday morning the couple was heard arguing in their home and the man was subsequently seen chopping his wife in their yard. Shortly after he was seen ingesting what appeared to be a poisonous substance and setting the house afire. Reports are that he ran out of the burning building with burns to most parts of his body and was rushed to the hospital.
