Dear Editor,
I am making another attempt to highlight and have the issue of radio addressed. The last time I heard radio clearly in my community, Kwakwani, was when President Jagan’s funeral was broadcast.
In my effort to have answers, I was given all the excuses and reasons available from NCN.
My radio was even checked by an NCN technician who verified that the radio signal to Kwakwani is indeed very weak.
Now what we have in 2011 is a situation where cricket lovers have to congregate around a transistor radio like days of old to follow a game and the amazing part is 98.1FM can be heard in vehicles anywhere.
So any one who loves to keep abreast with current affairs will have be able to purchase a vehicle to get 98.1FM or wait until the community newspapers arrive in the afternoon via public transportation.
We are kept informed through our television about what was on NCN six O’clock news, but just imagine watching news on May 23, 2011 and hearing the Announcer telling you that the News is for Thursday 12th May, 2011.
These news broadcasts are aired in full with sports news and weather forecast even though they are so late.
It is my humble view that NCN must strengthen its radio signal and give us the opportunity to listen to radio in our homes. Effort must be made to have taped news arrive in a timely manner.
