It will be 46 rounds of ‘don’t you dare miss it’ fistic fury when officials of the Guyana Boxing Board of Control (GBBC) stage a boxing card dubbed ‘The Rampage’ this Saturday May 28 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).
Already, the corporate support is pouring in and less than twenty four hours after Digicel contributed a hefty sum to the success of the card, another corporate entity Courts, has emulated their chivalry with a $500,000 gift package.

Yesterday afternoon GBBC President Peter Abdool visited the Main Street offices of that entity and received the gift on behalf of his organization. Courts Public Relations Officer, Zeya Nasir-Ramnauth, proudly handed over the cheque to the GBBC boss while reiterating her organization’s commitment to the development of local pugilists and the general advancement of the sport. Indeed, the furniture giant has put their money where their mouth is and has been a visible contributor ever since the inauguration of the card. Their support has come in the form of large food hampers, donated to eight boxers at the end of every edition of the ProAm card. “We are in this for the long haul,” Court’s marketing executive had said then.
Mr. Abdool humbly accepted the gift while reminding those present that “Courts has always been on board with us, even before the inauguration of the Friday Night Fights. We are indeed grateful for their support,” he concluded.
The fruits of the monthly ProAm boxing cards are now flourishing for all to see and after more than one year of perseverance on the part of officials of the Guyana Boxing Board, officials and fierce rivalry on the part of the boxers, the situation will peak when the best from the pool of local pugilists face off this Saturday for ‘the Rampage’, a 46 rounds extravaganza that pits the skill of the country’s best pugilists.
Kwesi ‘Lightening Struck Assassin’ Jones will attempt to destroy the good looks of Lennox ‘Pretty Boy’ Allen when the two square off for Caribbean Boxing Federation (CABOFE) super middleweight title while Dexter Marques will be out to prove he is better than USA based bantamweight pugilist, Elton ‘Coolie Bully’ Dharry. If he succeeds he will win the bantamweight version of the CABOFE title.
Mitchell Rogers and Kurt Bess will go after each other in the third bout that has both pugilists enjoying one victory apiece. This bout will settle the score once and for all. Edmond DeClou and Winston Pompey also battled to a draw in an earlier encounter and both principals believed that they should have gotten the nod. This bout is another grudge match and at the end of it all the contentions should disappear.
Otherwise, Ray Sandiford joins the big boys in the professional arena after a fruitful amateur career. He opposes the more experienced Cecil Smith over four rounds. Both fighters are spouting confidence and Smith has said that he will not allow any tenderfoot to get the better of him. Sandiford feels otherwise and has promised to dish out a licking on Smith.
The stage is therefore set for a scorching card when the first bell sounds at 20:00hrs on fight night and the boxers would have to either put up or shut up. Whichever way it goes boxing buffs can come expecting unbridled action.
The ringside seats are $3,000 while stands are $1,500. There would be no live showing of the card but patrons may be able to view it at a later date to be announced. Bell time is 20:00hrs sharp.
