Dear Editor,
I strongly condemn the alleged threats made by the General Manager of RUSAL to bash and bury the workers of that Company. I trust that he would be severely disciplined by the Company and the matter reported to the police.
I have noted that many Guyanese have expressed concern, but do they do the same when the threats are made by Guyanese.
Threats are a common day occurrence in Guyana, especially at the workplace. Many are not reported, as employees are fearful of losing their jobs, especially when powerful persons are involved.
I recall that at a meeting of NBS’ shareholders held at the Pegasus in September, 2007, one of the Directors threatened to bury a Manager who was there to represent himself in an alleged fraud. This particular Director also threatened to deal with the then CEO’s children who were there to represent him. These threats were made in full view of the shareholders and were captured on tape and subsequently aired on Prime News.
This Director was not disciplined by the Company nor any action taken by the police. He has been in the news recently for violating the laws of the country and continues with his raucous behaviour unabated.
Can we boast that democracy has returned to this country?
