Essequibo ranks have pulled in three persons for questioning, following the discovery of a 9 mm pistol, on Monday at Charity. The reports state that a male Italian, a Venezuelan woman and a male Guyanese, were arrested yesterday morning at Grant Buxton, Pomeroon River.
According to information, the three were apprehended after the Italian man, reportedly told police officers at Charity that the Venezuelan woman had fleeced him of an undisclosed sum of money. The police later found the gun in the woman’s suitcase.
Kaieteur News understands that both the Venezuelan woman and Italian who are friends, were staying at the Purple Heart hotel in Charity on Saturday. The following day the Venezuelan woman, reportedly left the hotel and went with the Guyanese.
Sources said the Italian later made a report at the Charity police outpost, that the woman was fleeing with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Police upon investigation went in search of the Venezuelan woman, who was found with the pistol in her suitcase.
According to reports, the woman has since claimed that the gun belonged to the Italian and that she was not aware that the gun was put into her suitcase.
All three are in custody at the Anna Regina Police Station. This newspaper was told that the Italian has been living in Guyana for some time.
