Most Valuable Player (MVP) Jermaine Fletcher was in fine form yet again for Georgetown which carted off the 2011 Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Inter Association Under-15 championship following a 6-0 mauling of Bartica at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence on Sunday evening.
Led by the consistent Alpha Mc Phoy who blasted a hat-trick, the City side outhustled the Bartica team and never allowed them to settle into a comfort zone.
When the two sides met in the preliminary round, Bartica drew first blood before losing 3-1 but this time around on the big stage, they {Bartica} never got the chance to score.
Kareem Knights opened the scoring for Georgetown in the 3rd minute before Mc Phoy took over rocking the nets in the 11th, 42nd and 62nd minute respectively.
Fletcher was next to hit the network with a goal of his own in the 67th minute. Closing out the rout for Georgetown was Keith Caines in the 78th minute.
Bartica were no match for the rampaging young city players but can take heart from the fact that they were able to reach the final and can only get better from here on in as long as they remain focused.
Upper Demerara which won the third place trophy and bronze medals also took one of the individual prizes with their goalkeeper Martin Leacock named the best goalkeeper. Fletcher took the trophies for the MVP and highest goal scorer having ended with 7 goals. The fair play team award went to East Demerara Football Association.
Prime Minister Samuel Hinds was on hand over the winning trophy and medals to the Georgetown Captain and his colleagues while GFF President Colin Klass, General Secretary Noel Adonis and Deputy General Secretary George Rutherford also assisted with the presentation of prizes. (Franklin Wilson)
