Dear Editor,
I express my disgust at statements made by presidential candidate Mr. David Granger in his address to the Public Sector recently. It left me to ponder if Mr. Granger is not conscious of some of the statements that he is making in this election year or if he is not being properly advised.
To make statements he is going to privatize the sugar industry and GPL and the fact that he has no plans for Linden are very poor political statements. While I do agree that something needs to be done with the sugar industry which is now managed by political hacks and PPP/cronies, making statements like that in an election year shows the weakness in Granger’s political tact and strategy needed to get rid of this corrupt and inept regime.
Mr. Editor, more alarming is to tell one of your support bases, that you do not have any plans for them when and if you assume the presidency of this country. How will Mr. Granger be able to convince the people in Linden for them to vote for the PNCR at the upcoming elections?
I understand that General Council of the Party met recently and I trust that the political strategy and techniques presently utilised by Granger and his team were reviewed and more members of the party get involve in the election campaign.
It is time people like Aubrey Norton, Volda Lawrence, Vincent Alexander, Basil Williams among others appear in the forefront of these campaign, let me say unapologetically that soldiering and politicking is two different field and although Mr. Granger might have the full support of former soldiers, I wish to say that the political wizards are needed to deal with the PPP/C regime who have over the years done what the PNC uses to do in the 60’s and 70’s – educating and informing their members and supporters all over Guyana.
The other aspect I have noted is that most of Mr. Granger’s presentations focus on security, I know that is important for any improving economy, however, he should not forget investment and industrialisation thereby more jobs can be provided, thus easing the unemployment problems in Guyana.
In any campaign we need advertisement and information to our supporters and the voting population in general, I do believe that the current advertisement run by the youths for Granger should be pulled off the air; for me it has serve its purpose and the time for that is over. Let’s move on.
A collective effort is needed by the entire membership of the party, the soldiers alone will never win the elections for Granger hence the talk should not be Granger and the PNCR rather it should be the PNCR and Granger. Let’s get back to the basics, community and bottom house meetings and let us inform, educate and tell our young people and supporters the facts and let them understand that we need to get rid of this inept and corrupt regime.
