Mahaica man succumbs after altercation

After an altercation between relatives an injured Gowkaran Gouridat, 45, called ‘Veno’ of DeHoop, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara, the man succumbed at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) in the wee hours of Saturday morning.
Relatives told this publication last Sunday, that Gouridat had an altercation with his uncle and he was attacked with a pipe and beaten. A cousin and two nephews then also joined in beating and further attacked him senselessly.
Gouridat was taken to the Mahaicony Cottage Hospital where he was treated and sent away. However, the following day he began ‘vomiting blood’ and was then rushed to the GPHC where he was admitted the same day.
Relatives are calling on the police to investigate the circumstances surrounding Gouridat’s demise.
