Registrar of Friendly Societies of the Ministry of Labour, Human Services and Social Security, Kareem Abdul-Jabar has written to the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) General Secretary Noel Adonis in relation to their Ordinary Congress (Annual General Meeting), which is set for later this month.
In the letter, Jabar told the GFF that they have been reliably informed that the GFF has advertised their Annual General Meeting, however, the Friendly Societies Division is advising that this action would not be in keeping with their last letter to you dated 15th April, 2011.
The letter noted that, subsequent to the widespread concerns expressed in the media and written complaint by members, the Registrar will be initiating an Inquiry into the affairs of the Guyana Football Federation in accordance with Section 51(1) of Chapter 36:04 of the Friendly Societies Act.
The previous letter had pointed out that the registered GFF constitution, which was completely amended and registered on August 30, 2005, does not allow for the holding of any congress as their AGM is called.
However, the Society had understood this to be referring to an AGM based on the agenda indicated.
The earlier letter had informed that while the Annual Returns and Audit report were submitted to the Registrar of Friendly Societies, time would not allow for them to be properly reviewed and released in time for the Guyana Football Federation to have its Annual General Meeting on Saturday 16th April, 2011.
They had said that any Annual General Meeting that is held without the requirements outlined in the law and constitution of Guyana Football Federation would be null and void, as such the meeting scheduled for April 16 be postponed pending the release of the Audit Report. However, from all indication that Audit Report has not been completed.
Asked for a comment on the matter, GFF President Colin Klass informed that they were in receipt of the letter from the Friendly Societies and it will be addressed accordingly. He stated that it (letter) was not relevant to their scheduled election programme, however, the GFF will address whatever matters addressed based on their constitution, despite the letter not being fully specific.
