As businessmen countrywide and close relatives try to come to grips with the death of popular businessman, Victor Warner, police have since held a close relative of the businessman, along with another Essequibo resident in connection with the murder.
One of the two men now in custody is said to be one of the businessman’s sons, who recently returned from Venezuela. The second man nabbed on Friday, police said, physically assaulted officers.
Warner, police say, sustained injuries to both the back of his head and face, apparently from a blunt object. Police have recovered a hammer and a spanner at the murder scène. There were signs of breakage to the premise, police said.
The man’s corpse was on Thursday morning discovered lying in a fetal position by one of his grandsons, in the bottom quarters of his Richmond home.
Gail Ann Warner said that her father woke up early on Thursday morning and was placing beverages into the refrigerator.
A few hours later, Gail said, she learnt from her neighbour, who had visited her father earlier in the day to check on him, that there was no response from the home.
The visitor, according to Gail, decided to call on Warner’s two grandsons, Navin and Kevin, who lived with him at his Richmond home. They were sound asleep, Gail said, but they later awakened as a result of the continuous calls from the neighbour.
They subsequently discovered their grandfather’s motionless body next to the refrigerator.
A team comprising a forensic expert from Georgetown was summoned and dusted the confines of the shop.
Warner, who moved to the Essequibo Coast since he was a lad, established himself as a prominent businessman over the past 45 years.
The 70-year-old businessman will be laid to rest after a post mortem.
