Misinterpreting PNCR’s presidential candidate for political mileage

Dear Editor,
It is with a heavy heart and serious disappointment I write on the matter of a statement made by PNCR’s presidential candidate Mr. David Granger that was reported in a misleading manner by what should be the State media, but is instead the Government media.
On Wednesday 19th May 2011, the NCN 6 O’Clock News carried a story about the PNCR candidate reporting that he stated that he has no plans for the community of Linden. It is without fear of contradiction Mr. Editor, that I say that Mr. Granger’s statement was purposely misinterpreted for political mileage and sensationalism. During that business meeting the questioned posed to Mr. Granger was “what are your plans for Linden?” Thanks to my good and learned friends in the media fraternity who attended that meeting, the proof that Mr. Granger’s statement was willfully misinterpreted, is below as the following is his verbatim response to that question. The Presidential’ Candidate’s response was follows:
“The Linden employment problem is a problem that is pervasive and I mentioned that already and it more so has to do with the education system. Linden I know has made initiatives in agriculture like all of the regions, that’s one way that Region Ten will have to go.
As far as the overall development of Linden is concerned, I think it has been placed in the context of being on the main artery in what is expected to be the Guyana/Brazil Highway and I think Linden has to see itself as a hub; an economic hub, that sub-region and it is very closely linked to Region Eight.
Its part and I regard Region Eight and Ten as one region; as one region, like the mining region.
I don’t have any new plans for Linden, I think we have to continue the efforts to generate private investments in that area, a lot of investment will come from microenterprise and I think Linden has made some headway, but I would like to see much more agriculture, much more agro-processing, not in Linden, but Linden becoming the centre of a region which agro processing is paramount because I know that in other areas, not Linden itself, other people had complained about dumping farm products and I would like to see Linden using its energy to become an agro processing centre, but I will leave the private enterprise if not mining, private enterprises, other fields, and when that road to Brazil is open, I hope it doesn’t become a sort of artery of cocaine and guns, Linden will certainly be important and that bridge will have to be done.
As far as I am concerned Linden as the administrative Centre for Region Ten must be able to attract a resident population which is more involved in micro-enterprise and agro processing for that entire region, I don’t think enough interest is being placed on agricultural production in that region and there is also the Hinterland of Linden.”
Now any right thinking and logical person can garner from the above excerpt of his speech that Mr. Granger’s intention was to let Lindeners and other investors know that he is confident that Linden has the potential to self develop without confusing matters by promoting new plans and projects for that area.
Linden is clearly already a mining community that is being badly managed by those in government who seem to not have a clue about what should be happening to promote economic development in Linden.
