Dear Editor,
I don’t know if many Guyanese feel the same way as I do, but this is what I strongly and firmly believe, I love Guyana and our culture. Guyana has a bright future.
The problem is we cannot see anything but ourselves and our hardships, and there are so many countries that are so much worse off than us. This is why I believe young people need to travel and gain some knowledge and perspective; see how other people live and what we can do to change our country. We have to come to terms with this because some things are really not as bad as we make them out to be.
What comes to mind is that Guyana has a rich culture and history, and its people are genuine and friendly. Its young excel in academics and are well educated. Guyana has had years to rebuild our economy, and we are doing so slowly but surely but there is always room for improvement.
What Guyana needs, in my opinion, is a unified goal. We need to stop squabbling amongst ourselves, and dividing our nation amongst political lines, and unite in the pursuit of making Guyana equal, if not greater.
Anyway, that is just my little rant; the situation is obviously more complicated than that, but I do believe one of the root causes of our problems is that we cannot stop fighting amongst ourselves and unite to make this country a better place. I think this government is the best for Guyana, they are trying hard to improve situations, it’s just that they have many difficulties with some newspapers, TV stations, and media in general that they feel are against them. The past administration would kill Guyana if they came back to power. Guyana has the potential; we have the people, the intelligence, the resources and the drive.
Now all we need is a goal, the place to get this is the youth! We should all realise that boosting the economy is the way to create a better and stronger Guyana! There are no limits to what passionate people with a common goal and ways to bring it into reality can do. People need to stop spewing out reasons why we can’t progress, and start to give ways we can make progress.
The problem is that Guyanese like to complain about everything and not do anything to change their situation. Guyana can and will get better. You determine your own future and the success of it. That is what freedom and a democratic society is all about.
