Vehicle owners who continue to use the Good Hope ferry stelling, have been once again been confronted with other issues at the transportation department of the Transport and Harbours Department.
This time the issue is parking accommodation and the breakdown of communication between staff of T&H.D and security.
According to one irate truck owner, his fellow truck owners who continue to use the services of T&H.D, are being treated like ‘dogs.’ The frequent user of the ferry stelling said for the last three weeks the management of T&H.D has instructed its officers, in Region Two, to prohibit vehicle owners from parking their vehicles in the Good-Hope compound.
The frustrated truck owner noted that ever since truck owners have received that instruction, they are afraid to leave their vehicles and their merchandise unprotected. The businessman argued that in the event of their vehicles being vandalised it would be an additional cost for them to incur.
“Most of the time it is not our merchandise, but someone else’s.’’
Another truck owner said there has been a breakdown in communication between officers of T&H.D and vehicle commuters. The man said he and his fellow business counterparts are not duly notified about the varying regulations regarding both the departure and return of the ferries to the original port.
When contacted by this newspaper, Lall, the senior security officer, said that the instruction not to have vehicles park any longer in the compound was handed down by the management of T&H.D.
Lall added that previously with the parking of vehicles in the compound, a lot of space was taken up.
With this new order, vehicles would be only allowed to enter the compound whenever the boat has left and upon its return.
Although the ferry has moved from Adventure to Good Hope, the fare remains the same for vehicles. Commuters have to pay more.
