D’Edward SC book remaining male semifinal berth
Regal Mahaica Queens of the Upper East Coast easily overcame a spirited Sunrise SC by7 wickets in their quarterfinal of the Regal Stationery & Computer Centre over 35 (males) 20/20 & females open 10/10 softball cricket tournament organised by the Guyana Softball League played at the Everest Cricket Club Ground at the weekend.
Mahaica Queens won the toss and inserted their more seasoned opponents and whose average age is 22 as compared to the Queens whose average age is 12. Sunrise SC made a challenging 84-5 in their allotted 10 overs with Shavon Cornelius striking 26 batting at number 4 in the order. She was supported by Shenika Chattergoon with 19 not out. Bowling for Mahaica Queens Pranita Singh snared 2-13 off her two overs.
Mahaica Queens in their turn found themselves in early trouble as Shavelene Stellingburg bowling very quick going with the breeze, took 2 wickets in her first over with only 7 runs on the board with most being wides.
But the level headed Jasodra Singh along with Michelle De Jonge, who played herself in then started to hit the ball to all parts of the ground, took their team to victory. The unbeaten partnership was worth 78 runs with Jasodra Singh ending on 28 and Michelle De Jonge 20.
Shavelene Stellingburg eventually ended with 2- 14 from 2 overs for the Sunrise SC females.
In another match up, Mahaica Princesses made it a good day for Upper East Coast as they made light work of Heavenly Angels (the Berbice winners) after the Berbicians were tottering at 44-8 in 7.3 overs chasing 106 made by Mahaica Princesses.
Mahaica Princess have now advanced to the semifinals.
In the last male quarterfinal, D’ Edward SC over 35 (the Berbice winners) had an easy way through to the semifinals after Max Master ‘A’ failed to show and handed D’Edward SC a semifinal berth. The semifinal fixtures will be drawn soon.
Meanwhile, the quarterfinal matchup between Monar Institute and Cottonfield SC females will take place this weekend in Essequibo at a venue to be announced.
